□ Day 16: Behind the Scenes #icphotochallenge⁣ ⁣ □□ I call this “digging in” - I know you do it too. It’s what all good coaches do behind the scenes and it’s what makes us good coaches. We’re willing to dig in when others aren’t. We’re willing to keep learning when we don’t know it yet. I believe this is an essential quality of someone who wants to be an instructional coach: the initiative and desire to dig into a problem and come up with a solution. ⁣ ⁣ □ Today I dug in to Leading for Differentiation by Carol Ann Tomlinson looking for answers to my big questions about how to support a faculty as they are being asked to change their instructional model. I read, highlighted, and sticky noted until I was ready to get to work writing a vision, goals for improvement, and an action plan for next steps. ⁣ ⁣ □ Coaching is a calling. It’s a call to leadership. I know you didn’t come out of the classroom to keep things the same. That’s not who you are or you wouldn’t have said yes. You want to see change happen - you can see the vision for change and how to make things better - you are a change agent. ⁣ ⁣ □ If that’s true about you (and I know it is!) then girl, behind the scenes you better be digging into Leadership. The answers to your questions of how to help people change and move forward, they aren’t in the Education books - they are actually in the Business books. I’ve found a few good authors who can blend the worlds well - but once I started digging into leadership, I found the answers to the questions I was looking for on change leadership. You will find even more than that - I’ve discovered on my Leadership journey that it is about self-reflection, and I’ve learned more about myself, my emotions, my self-control, my beliefs, and my purpose by digging into this work. I pray the same for you because coaching is hard work, but you can lead well and be successful! ⁣ ⁣ □ I have most of my favorite books listed on my blog page - □ link in my profile! ⁣ If you just want one book to start with, pick up 5 Levels of Leadership by John Maxwell.
